Lamborghini has decided to delay its EV plans, and things don’t look rosy for the Lamborghini Lanzador either.
Unveiled two years ago and initially scheduled to enter production in 2028, the Lanzador concept was later delayed to 2029.
The reason is simple: weak demand.
But, on the bright side, the CEO is confident that hybrids are the way to go.

What happened to the Lamborghini Lanzador
The Lamborghini Lanzador, Lambo’s first-ever EV, was unveiled as a concept car in 2023 at Pebble Beach.
And the marque said it would be here by 2028, but then delayed the official market launch to 2029.
This, according to Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, is just because demand is simply too low.

In an interview with Auto Express, Winkelmann said that launching a full EV now would be premature, as it would be ‘the wrong offer’ for the next few years.
“When it comes to our type of cars, [our customers] don’t see [EV] as an alternative today,” he said.
This is bittersweet news for EV fans
Winkelmann confirmed that hybrids are still a priority for the brand, which means we can still expect electrified vehicles like the Revuelto or the Sián.
However, he also said that a final ‘decision’ on the Lanzador’s powertrain will be made soon.
It’s a vague statement, but it sounds like Lamborghini is considering pivoting and turning the EV concept into a hybrid.

The truth of the matter is, while it is true that EV sales are going up, there are market categories with very weak EV demand.
The Ferrari Elettrica, arguably the most important electric supercar ever, should be here next year.
Its market success – or lack thereof – will probably also play a part in Lamborghini’s decision.
