Lewis Hamilton sends F1 paddock into meltdown

February of 2024 saw confirmation that Lewis Hamilton was making a massive move.

The Formula One paddock was set ablaze with confirmation that Hamilton would be moving to the Ferrari F1 team.

For 12 years, the British driver had dominated the sport with the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team.

The partnership saw Lewis Hamilton scoop six Formula One World Drivers’ Championships.

By 2024, however, rumors began swirling that this long-lasting relationship might be about to end.

Those rumors would ultimately be proven true, with Hamilton finally departing the Brackley outfit.

But it was the confirmation of the move to the historic Scuderia Ferrari F1 team that really made news.

The revelation that Hamilton would don the famous red of Maranello quickly broke the internet.

It’s a partnership that has struggled to get off the ground so far this season.

The latest struggle came during this past weekend’s Azerbaijan GP in Baku.

Hamilton failed to give P8 back to Ferrari F1 teammate Charles Leclerc, despite being ordered to do so.

British F1 icon reveals reason for making Maranello move

Of course, it is a commonly known fact that Lewis Hamilton has always wanted to drive for Ferrari.

Back in 2024, he confirmed to F1 that driving for the Ferrari F1 team was ‘a childhood dream.’

But the British racing star has now confirmed a different reason for making the move to Maranello.

According to Hamilton, the move came in a desire to avoid complacency and arrogance.

“I’m the type of person… I don’t like to get complacent and be comfortable, and that’s really kind of where I was with the long-term relationship I had before.”

“And taking this step into a team that I truly believe in, and I still believe in the potential here and what we can achieve together, and I think everyone in the team does,” Hamilton explained.

Reflecting on his struggles this season, Hamilton was typically philosophical in his analysis.

“[But] no one succeeds without going through those tough patches, so I do welcome it, looking forward to the sunnier days for sure,” the seven-time world champion reflected.

It will be fascinating to see if Lewis Hamilton can revive his fortunes with Ferrari towards the end of this 2025 season.

He will certainly be hoping to enjoy a much better run of form next season in 2026.
