A man endeavoured to spend as little money as possible on expensive driving lessons and used YouTube and just six hours of lessons to pass his test with a near-perfect grade.

Driving lessons can be quite expensive, and depending on how fast a learner you are, it can cost a lot of money to finally be able to drive a car.

A Reddit user, though, decided to see how little money he could spend by using YouTube tutorials to cut down on his lessons.

Incredibly, it paid off, and he got through the test with just a single minor fault.

This is how much money the learner driver saved on driving lessons

Based in the UK, this learner driver managed to get through just six hours of lessons.

That was all they needed to be able to pass their driving test.

It’s important to work out how much money it cost, and how much they may have potentially saved.

In the UK, lessons are roughly paid for by the hour, and usually cost around £30 at the lowest point, roughly $40.

So for six hours of learning, he may have paid around £180, or $241.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVLA) in the UK states that most people take around 45 hours of lessons before they pass.

So many UK drivers may pay roughly £1,350, or $1,200, before they can pass their driving test.

Even if some pay a bit less or more, that represents a huge saving on the usual total.

How the learner passed his test so quickly

In order to pass the test quickly, the learner used slightly unconventional methods.

He said in the Reddit thread that they spent most of their driving time with parents and friends.

This is something learners can do with a provisional license.

He then used YouTube to learn various maneuvers, such as parking, before practicing them in real life.

On top of that, the learner also said he learned how to deal with various situations via the videos.

A month out from the test, he booked his lessons and, in the end, needed just six hours to pass.

Passed with 6 hours of lessons and one minor.

Incredibly, it paid off, quite literally, as he passed the test the first time with just one minor fault.

With driving lessons never being cheap, this looked like a great way to save some money.

Plus, that means more money for them to spend on fuel and to keep their car running as well.
