Mercedes G Wagen production has reached a major milestone with 600,000 units built, marked by the latest electric G 580 EQ Technology from the Electric G-Class lineup.
After over 40 years of continuous G-Class production, the model’s legacy continues in Graz, Austria, where every G-Class has been built since 1979.
The G-Class has always stayed true to its roots, known for its rugged design and capability.
Now, the G 580 EQ Technology is driving the G-Class into its next era, combining electric power with familiar design.

New EV pushes the Mercedes G Wagen into the future
The 600,000th Mercedes G Wagen is a G 580 EQ Technology, finished in Obsidian Black Metallic and assembled in Graz.
Mercedes-Benz continues to build every G-Class in the same factory, with the Electric G-Class now forming a key part of its future strategy.
The G 580 EQ Technology is designed to deliver electric performance without changing the model’s identity.

Underneath, the G 580 EQ Technology is powered by a 116.0kWh lithium-ion battery. This power source gives it a driving range of up to 473 kilometers (294 miles).
It uses four electric motors that produce a combined 579hp and 859lb-ft of torque.
Acceleration to 60mph takes 4.4 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 112mph.

Fast-charging technology allows the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 32 minutes.
This milestone comes less than two years after the 500,000th G-Class was built.
G-Class production has been continuous since 1979, with the Electric G-Class now introduced to keep the model competitive as emissions regulations evolve.
Mercedes-Benz has made it clear that the G-Class will remain part of its lineup, with electrification playing a central role.
Customization keeps the G-Class in demand
G-Class production is also known for its high level of personalization.
Since the MANUFAKTUR program launched in 2019, Mercedes-Benz has reported that over 90 percent of G-Class buyers choose at least one custom specification.
This includes unique paint colours, interior materials, and trim finishes. Each change makes each Mercedes G Wagen a reflection of its owner’s preferences.
Throughout its production run, the G-Class has been offered in various body styles, including short-wheelbase convertibles and long-wheelbase station wagons.

The G 580 EQ Technology brings electric power to the lineup while retaining the model’s signature look and off-road capability.
Mercedes-Benz has ensured that G-Class production continues to balance tradition with technological upgrades.
With 600,000 units now built, the Mercedes G Wagen remains a symbol of durability and status.
The addition of the Electric G-Class and models like the G 580 EQ Technology shows how Mercedes-Benz plans to maintain the G-Class legacy while adapting to future demands.
