This plane-shaped motorcycle car from the 1980s is possibly the strangest vehicle ever

  • Although it looks like a plane, this contraption of a vehicle can’t actually fly
  • This custom bike was built in the 1980s
  • It is also quite rare since only around 350 were ever produced

The 1980s was a strange era for automobiles, with many odd-looking vehicles hitting the streets — but none were as weird as the Pulse Autocycle, a plane-shaped motorcycle car hybrid with wings.

The Pulse Autocycle features two wheels and looks like an airplane cockpit with tiny wings on the sides.

Unfortunately, the bike never took a flight despite its looks, but it certainly turned a lot of heads.

Plane-shaped motorcycle car hybrid

The Pulse Autocycle was envisioned by aircraft engineer Jim Bede after being inspired by fighter jets and Bede’s very own BD-5 small aircraft.

Surprisingly, it was produced by the Owosso Motor Car Company in Michigan between 1985 and 1990.

Despite its five-year production run, the motorcycle-car hybrid is quite rare today.

That’s because the Michigan-based company ever only built around 350 of them.

Although it is not a flying bike like the one from Mayman Aerospace, it certainly has a lot of style.

Pulse Autocycle

Most Pulse Autocycles feature a Honda Goldwing engine that can produce 94 horsepower.

While it may not seem like much, 94 horses are quite adequate given the low curb weight of the vehicle.

The Pulse Autocycle will be a worthy addition to our list of the weirdest bikes in the world.

Fortunately, the plane-shaped motorcycle often shows up on the used car market from time to time.

So if you have ever wanted to own such an unusual vehicle, you might get lucky and find one near you for sale.

The weird plane-shaped motorcycle-car hybrid reminds us of the $1 million custom motorbike powered by a Rolls-Royce plane engine.

Both bikes are clearly inspired by planes, but since the Autocycle resembles more of a plane, one can say it is a more exotic design.
