Hot Wheels introduces extremely rare car

For many car fans, Hot Wheels are often one of the first introductions to the future obsession.

The small-scale model cars have been around for 57 years, having been first introduced in 1968.

In that time, almost every car you can think of has been immortalized in the small-scale collection.

And now, Mattel has added one of the rarest Mustang models ever made to its collection.

This isn’t just any Hot Wheels model, though – it is part of the RLC (Red Line Club) range.

The Red Line Club is Mattel’s members-only collectors club – and it costs just $9.99 per year to join.

So, what Mustang is so rare that it is worthy of being part of a collectors-only club?

Well, the car in question is the 1993 Mustang Cobra R; and only 107 were ever made.

The 1993 Mustang Cobra R Hot Wheels is finished in a color called ‘Spectraflame Shadowchrome.’

It also boasts miniature Real Riders six-spoke Mag wheels, as well as an actual all-black chassis.

A functional hood also comes with the car, as do tinted windows and a ‘SHADOW’ number plate.

You can now own a 1993 Mustang Cobra R – sort of

So, how much will this Hot Wheels Mustang set you back?

Thankfully, a lot less than the real thing – but it does cost $28, and members can only purchase a maximum of two.

In terms of the real thing, it very much happens to live up to the hype.

Because only 107 were made, the 1993 Mustang Cobra R remains extremely valuable.

A truly pristine example will set you back somewhere in the $190,000, while a very good example commands $70,000.

In fairness, those values are worth it when you look at what you get for your money.

Under the hood sits a 5.0-liter V8 that produces 235hp.

It also comes with an incredibly distinctive body kit, which gives the Cobra R its iconic look.

This Fox body platform really did ensure that the 1993 Mustang Cobra R was one of the best-looking cars Ford ever made.

And now, thanks to Hot Wheels, you can own one of your own…kind of.
