A German man found his stolen car 20 years after it’d been reported missing, as it turned out that he’d simply forgotten where he’d parked it.

He reported his car as stolen to the Frankfurt authorities back in 1997.

It wouldn’t be found until 20 years later, in a garage of an industrial building that was due to be demolished.

But there was no crime to solve here – the man had simply forgotten where he’d parked his car.

This stolen car hadn’t been seen for 20 years – but there was more to this story than initially appeared

The car was found when the demolition crew reported it to the police, and they did some investigating.

The original owner, who was now 76 years old, was driven to be reunited with his car.

What should have been a heartwarming reunion – like this 1973 Plymouth Barracuda – fell a little flat.

That’s because the car was no longer functional and was sent to the scrap heap.

This was remarkably similar to another incident in Germany, where a man in Munich was without his car for two years.

He reported it missing, and it was found 4km from where he thought he’d parked it.

It had thousands of cash notes in the boot, alongside tools worth thousands of euros – fortunately nobody had taken advantage of this.

But it’s not just your average Joe who’s prone to this kind of forgetfulness.

Believe it or not, celebrities have also fallen foul of this issue, even with their super-pricey supercars.

Celebrities who have misplaced their cars before

Justin Bieber forgot where he’d parked his $260,000 Ferrari for three weeks after a wild night out.

His assistant had to go and track it down for him.

But that’s nothing on the late Richard Harris, aka Dumbledore from the first two Harry Potter films.

His Rolls-Royce was parked in an NYC parking lot for an astonishing 25 years.

Reports estimated that the unpaid parking charges could range anywhere from $92,000 to $543,000.

It’s important to have a system in place so you can remember where you parked your car.

You certainly don’t want to go years without a vehicle on account of your memory being murky.
