When it comes to countries renowned for producing cars, your mind will likely go to Germany, Japan, or the US – but they’re being made in Mexico in increasing volume.

Whether it’s SUVs or EVs, Mexico’s auto industry is experiencing a big boom.

Even with the US tariffs causing upset for some countries, the Mexican car industry has been going from strength to strength.

These are some of the cars made in Mexico, and some of them may surprise you.

Believe it or not, these cars are made in Mexico

There’s one easy way to learn if your car was made in Mexico – if the VIN starts with 3.

The more you know, huh?

So, which models are being manufactured down in Mexico?

First up, there’s the 2026 BMW M2 CS, made at the Plant San Luis Potosí. This 523hp sports car was the 500,000th BMW ever built in Mexico, Jalopnik reported.

Pulling a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds and capable of top speeds of 188mph, it’s no wonder this car goes on sale at a bank-busting $99,775.

Then there’s the 2026 Audi Q5 and SQ5, built in Audi’s Mexico plant, which was opened in San José Chiapa back in 2016.

Given that the Q5 and SQ5 are Audi’s best-selling vehicles in the States, this plant is of great importance to the brand.

Also in the ‘Made in Mexico’ club is the 2026 GMC Terrain.

Now, we know what you’re thinking – ‘GMC made in Mexico? That can’t be right, General Motors is as American as apple pie!’

Well, the Terrain is manufactured in GM’s San Luis Potosí plant, on the same production line as the Chevrolet Equinox.

The Terrain comes in four trims – FWD Elevation, AWD Elevation, AWD AT4, and AWD Denali.

Other cars made south of Texas include the Volkswagen Tiguan, produced in Mexico since 2017, and the Ford Bronco Sport, built in Ford’s Hermosillo plant.

The Honda HR-V is manufactured in Celaya, Central Mexico.

Add in the Mazda 3 and the Toyota Tacoma, and you’ve got yourself a seriously impressive line-up of cars.

Bet you didn’t realize so many were made in Mexico, did you?

Which countries dominate the car world?

We all know which countries are traditionally renowned for their car industries.

When it comes to luxury cars, six countries dominate – France, the UK, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and the US.

However, as the saying goes, ‘Change is a thing you can count on’.

China is now on the up, as its car companies make gains across the world from Europe to South America.

Nothing is guaranteed – expect the unexpected.
