This Texas man is chasing every single lilac Porsche on Earth after a love affair with a rare moonstone paint.
His love of Porsches in the particular color has led him on an epic journey across the Atlantic.
But his love didn’t end with sourcing, but prompted a deeper dive into the origins of the color.
Plus, he’s not the only Porsche lover to dive headfirst into car history.

This rare moonstone paint made this man chase every lilac Porsche on Earth
When it comes to the exterior of cars, the finishing paint color is a deciding factor when choosing a new vehicle.
But, for one man, the paint meant more to him than most.

In fact, Justin Roeser, a Texas-based collector, traced the Moonstone color across the world, but found the real history in Germany.
“Applied only to 223 cars in the 911 (G-Series), 924, and 928 model ranges worldwide in 1979 and 1980, Moonstone is one of the rarest colors to grace the exterior of a Porsche,” the car giant itself explained.
The car enthusiast owns a variety of Porsches, with his love of the unique color taking him all across the world.
So, after spending years tracking cars, he ventured to Europe to grab a third Porsche finished in Moonstone, and eventually landed right at the heart of history in Germany.
After sourcing and picking up the third Porsche, he ventured to the Porsche museum and joined forces with Vlasta Hatter, a member of the team that created the color in the 1970s.
“It wasn’t a metallic paint. Instead, we used pigments that are no longer allowed today. They’re responsible for this effect,” she explained.

And, she cleverly revealed that the car color, Flieder, was inspired by the blooming lilac plant.
Now, despite the Moonstone color being discontinued, ‘Porsche’s current Paint to Sample color, Moongem, is inspired by the Moonstone of the past,’ detailed the company.
“This special connection remains. So it’s probably no coincidence that Moonstone was launched the year I was born, which was 1979,” concluded the Moonstone lover.
He subsequently went on to visit different museums around Germany and other parts of Europe on his 10,000km adventure in his 1979 928 named Oli.
And, thanks to his love affair with the paint, he is now the lucky owner of three cars – the 911 G-Series, 924, and 928, of which only 223 cars had it applied.
The car is a timeless classic loved by many
From the 911 to the Cayenne, Porsche models have stood the test of time.
In fact, the cars are so loved that many dream of adding one to their own collection of vehicles.
For example, one man with a dream $1.6M Porsche 918 Spyder tested it out by driving 1,000 miles to Monaco while his wife decided to fly instead to see who was the ultimate winner.
Plus, we bet you didn’t know that Steve Jobs loved Porsche so much that he modeled the revolutionary Macintosh after his own 928.
