A video of Türkiye’s Transport Minister driving an Audi at 140 mph on a highway led to a speeding ticket and international attention.
The clip, filmed on the Ankara-Niğde route, showed speeds far above the 85 mph national limit.
Officials confirmed the recording was used directly to issue the fine.
What began as a social media post became a somewhat messy situation for the transport minister.

Speeding caught on video
The video was posted on Abdulkadir Uraloğlu’s official X account and was viewed millions of times.
It showed him in his Audi with music and speeches playing in the car while the speedometer stayed between 120 mph and 140 mph.
In Türkiye, video evidence is admissible for traffic enforcement, and authorities said the footage was enough to justify a speeding ticket.

The penalty was about $225.
Compared with countries such as Norway or the United States, where similar speeds can lead to license suspension or jail time, the fine was modest.
Uraloğlu did not take the video down. Instead, he reposted it with a blurred image of the citation.
In a short statement, he admitted to exceeding the limit and noted that speed laws apply to all drivers.
The repost reached millions more, extending the reach of the case.
Other high-profile speeding fines
In Finland, a millionaire was fined more than $120,000 for driving 51 mph in a 31 mph zone because the country ties penalties to income.
Switzerland follows a similar system.
A Swedish driver was caught at 180 mph in a Mercedes-SLS AMG and ordered to pay more than $1 million.

These cases show how a speeding ticket can escalate depending on national laws and the driver’s income.
Uraloğlu’s fine was far smaller, but the impact was amplified by his position and the fact that the violation was self-published.
His Audi at 140 mph became clear evidence, and the decision to share the citation ensured the case stayed in public view.
For Türkiye, it underscored that highway limits apply to everyone.
For drivers, it served as a reminder that a single video can be enough to bring real consequences.
