These two guys met up to drag race a turbine-powered Camaro against a Rolls-Royce turbine-powered minivan.

What else would we expect from Cleetus McFarland?

Now, on paper, it seems like an open-and-shut case, right?

But as we know with drag races, expecting the unexpected is always a good idea.

A turbine-powered Camaro and a turbine-powered minivan go onto a race-track…

The video pitted a turbine-powered Camaro – affectionately nicknamed the ‘Turbinaro’ – against a turbine minivan, AKA ‘Doc Turbine’, in a dyno test and drag racing challenge.

‘Doc Turbine’ used a mid-1960s Rolls-Royce Nimbus helicopter turbine.

McFarland and his pal anticipated dyno challenges with turbine engines and estimated around 610hp for the Camaro and roughly 700hp for the minivan.

Ultimately, the turbine on the dyno for the Camaro struggled, producing only about 120hp at the wheels.

The competitors agreed on a rolling start ‘hit and catch’ race, which would give the Camaro a chance to get a head start.

“Maybe I start from a roll and pass him,” McFarland suggested.

“When you pass him, he’s got to catch you and pass you to win,” a friend agreed.

As with many drag races, they decided they would do it more than once, so there were no fluke victories.

It’s only fair.

When it came time for the first round, the Camaro steamed ahead initially – only for the minivan to thunder into action.

Leaving smoke in its wake, there was no question that the Camaro had been left behind.

It was the same story the second time around, once again with a giant plume of smoke.

The minivan accelerated so fast that it made the Camaro look like it was on a leisurely cruise.

The fact that the minivan had a shark-themed wrap on it and shot flames from the back was merely the cherry on top.

“There’s nothing cooler than seeing a minivan in your rearview mirror with a giant plume behind it, accelerating like a rocket,” McFarland said.

So there you have it, a minivan outpaced a Camaro.

There’s a line you probably never thought you’d read.
