An American YouTuber bought a fifth-gen Camaro muscle car with a Boeing T50 turbine engine in the back, from eBay, and sight unseen.
Cleetus McFarland loves crazy cars and wild builds, so this Chevrolet Camaro was right up his street. It’s a 2010 Camaro, and it’s got a very unconventional engine under the hood.
McFarland certainly took a risk buying it sight unseen, as who knows what problems the muscle car might have had.
Yet when he got the car, not only did it sound incredible, but it also ran!

What was the Boeing T50 turbine used for?
The Boeing T50 is one of the earliest designs of a turboshaft engine, debuting in 1951.
It first saw use in a modified Kaman K-225 experimental helicopter, before also being used by the military.
Boeing developed a huge array of variants for a wide range of aircraft, notably Kaman helicopters.
But it was also used in the XL-19B Bird Dog, a small observation aircraft developed by Cessna.

The engine in McFarland’s Camaro is a T50-BO-12, rated at 365HP at 6,000RPM.
Inside the car, a control panel above the driver’s head indicates this is no ordinary engine.
What McFarland has bought is an American muscle car powered by a helicopter engine.
McFarland was surprised at how well the fifth-gen Camaro runs
The YouTuber revealed he paid $15,000 for the fifth-gen Camaro, so there were various expectations for how well it would run.
After a little bit of work, the Camaro fired up for the first time since McFarland bought it.
Neither he nor the rest of his team could quite believe the noise that this insane car produced.
When firing it up, it sounds nothing like a car and exactly like a jet engine.
It needed a bit more fettling and persuasion to fully get going, but McFarland and his team managed to do coax it into action.
The noise in the workshop must have been wild.
We can’t think of any other Camaros out there that have an old Boeing turbine engine under the hood.
Whoever dreamt up this crazy build and made it a reality deserves a massive pat on the back.
