The Tesla Model Y is making headlines for an all-new reason.

Tesla has been in the news for a couple of unfortunate reasons this year.

But it’s not all bad for the American EV maker, as it’s just stepped up its autonomous driving efforts.

And those efforts have culminated in a Model Y driving itself to a new owner’s house.

Tesla Model Y drives itself to new owner’s house

In a three-minute video uploaded to X, which you can watch at the top of this page, Tesla has showed off a Quicksilver Model Y driving itself to its new owner’s house.

The video starts with the fully autonomous Model Y sitting on the Gigafactory ramp before it drives out of the Gigafactory and merges onto the highway.

In the footage, the Model Y is seen navigating everything, from suburban roads to pedestrians and traffic lights.

It then arrives at the house of its new owner, over 30 minutes away from the Gigafactory.

This is a very significant milestone – not just for Tesla, but for the entire car industry.

Such a test proves, for example, that the Robotaxi service could be a very feasible look into the future.

Tesla’s Robotaxi has already taken to the streets

Tesla has finally unveiled its long-awaited “Robotaxi” services in Austin, Texas.

After confirming that users would be charged a $4.20 flat fee for usage, the cars hit the road.

Like most new initiatives, the Robotaxi services have definitely had some teething issues.

But Tesla is a long way from solely banking on the Robotaxi initiative to change its luck.

Tesla has been battling hard to reverse the hardships suffered in the first half of this year.

The first half of 2025 saw Tesla sales drop significantly and even lose its EV crown to Chinese rivals BYD.

The European and UK EV markets officially changed hands to BYD last month.

Naturally, such news has led to Tesla being forced to try to change its fortunes.
