Will Smith’s $42 million estate is the thing that California dreams are made of, and it’s so big that it has its own ZIP code.
There is a whole portfolio of real estate gems within the Smith family, but the sprawling estate up in the Calabasas hills is hard to top.
It took a staggering seven years to build, starting construction in 2003 and wrapping up in 2010.
This whole property is a dream – it’s no wonder that Jaden Smith once joked he would be living at his dad’s place until he was in his 40s.
Taking a closer look at Will Smith’s $42 million estate
Will Smith is a certified Hollywood legend from his days on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air to his epic career in blockbuster movies from Independence Day to I Am Legend.
With all that success has come a lot of money, and with that money has come a lot of luxury goods.
From a two-story $2.5 million motorhome to a car collection almost as vast as his real estate portfolio, Smith really does have it all.
He’s come a long way from his first car, which is still a pretty nice car admittedly.
But of all the possessions to his name, Smith’s Calabasas property really does come out on top.
A collaboration between the Smiths, architect Harry Perez-Daple, and interior designer Judith Lance, this property required the work of hundreds of skilled tradespeople to see completion.
“Everything needed to be done by hand,” Will told Architectural Digest.
“We wanted to feel the love and labor [sic] that went into every piece of this place.”
If there was one word to describe the sprawling property – without just using synonyms for ‘big’ – it would be ‘earthy’.
The walls of Will Smith’s house just make you think of warm climates.
Incidentally, earthy is a word Jada used when talking about the house.
“For Will and me this home was always a spiritual endeavor [sic]. We’re very earthy, organic people,” Jada said.
“We wanted to create a family retreat, something made by hand and as natural as possible, something that ties back to the land.”
Nine bedrooms fill the house, alongside a recording studio and a home cinema.
Down to the finest detail, this home is special – its front door being salvaged from a fort in India.
Out on the grounds, there’s basketball and volleyball courts, a pool, and a lake.
It’s no wonder that son Jaden joked he would be staying put for decades to come.
“The thing that people don’t get is everything at his house is free. So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I’m going to be there for 20, 30 more years,” Jaden said in a 2013 interview.
“He [Will Smith] says that as soon as I have a movie that’s bigger than one of his movies I can get my own house.”
He ultimately moved out at the age of 19 in June 2017, purchasing a $4 million home in Hidden Hills.
Expensive taste runs in the family, it would seem.
