A woman put her dad behind the wheel of a Tesla Model Y to get his thoughts on Full Self-Driving – and it’s fair to say it was quite an experience.

Scot from the Out of Spec BITS YouTube channel explained that she had recently been trialing three Tesla models, including the Y.

She decided that rather than reviewing FSD v14 herself, it would be more interesting to get her ‘very manual/analogue’ dad to try it instead.

She explained that he would be the ideal person for the job as he had no experience of Full Self-Driving and hadn’t even driven a Tesla before.

It was his first time using Full Self-Driving – here’s how it went

Before giving Full Self-Driving v14 a go, Scot’s dad admitted to being a little bit nervous about trying out the tech.

But after hitting the Start Self Driving button and getting the car moving, it didn’t take long before he managed to fit in a quick dad joke.

“Oh my God,” he said. “I can already tell this is a better drive than you are, Scot.”

Ouch.

Scot then quickly ran through the various driving modes offered by FSD, but her dad opted to play it safe with ‘Standard’ mode.

As the two got out onto busier roads, the FSD handled pedestrian crossings, stop signs, a one-way parking lot, and lane changes with ease.

And Scot’s dad was left ‘impressed’, not least because of how easy it all was.

“I am impressed,” he said.

“It is much, much more smooth and proficient than I thought it would be.

He went on to say that the tech was ‘encouraging’ and said that if more people chose to use autonomous driving in future it ‘may drive better than if those people were pushing the pedals and doing the steering’.

Waymo proves equally as shocking

Being behind the wheel of an autonomous vehicle for the first time is a pretty unusual experience.

This was perfectly captured in footage that recently went viral, showing a couple of Minneapolis grandparents riding in a Waymo

Kenny and his pal hailed one of the self-driving taxis the very first day it launched in their city to give it a go.

But rather than being apprehensive or concerned about the lack of a driver, the two men seemed delighted and genuinely excited about being inside the robotaxi.
