Back in 2019, this woman quit her job and sold the house she grew up in to live and travel in her truck full-time, it turns out that it costs far less than if she lived in a house.
Meet Ashley Kaye, a woman who, up until 2019, was born, raised, living, and working in Wisconsin and she was living in the house she was raised in.
After meeting a person who traveled full-time on a trip to Honduras, Kaye realized that it was her chance to start her own nomadic lifestyle and continue travelling the world and seeing the sights.
Along with the initial cost of the truck she travels in, her beloved Toyota Tacoma, her monthly costs factor in gas, food, her cellphone bill, and her Starlink WiFi access.

She quit her job and sold her house to travel in her truck full-time
Sometimes you have a conversation that changes everything, and for Ashley Kaye, a woman who, up until 2019, lived and worked in Wisconsin, she decided after one conversation her life would change forever.
On a trip to Honduras, Ashley met a person who lived and travelled on the road full-time, and she realized it’s what she wanted to do, and it was so much cheaper than she thought.
After saving up as much money as she could in a year of solid work and finishing with around $37,000, she quit her job, sold the house she was raised in and hit the road.
She researched the most perfect noble steed to complete her odyssey and bought a Toyota Tacoma truck that she lives in.

How much a life on the road costs her
Kaye spent $42,934 on the truck and about $50,000 on renovations, including buying a camper, adding solar panels, upgrading the truck bed and suspension and even installing a new electric cooler.
While she initially struggled with living on the road with no job to keep her busy, she’s got used to travelling and is now traversing the Pan-American Highway starting in Denver, although it stretches from Alaska to Argentina.
The initial cost of the truck and the renovations are not factored into Ashley Kaye’s monthly costs, but she estimates she spends around $556 on gas and $453 on food monthly.
On top of the food and gas, she pays $96 a month to keep connected on her cellphone bill and $200 a month for connection to Elon Musk’s Starlink internet.
While life on the road is never completely easy, it’s the greatest adventure of her life.
