Check out these seven eco-friendly superyachts changing our POV on luxury travel – from hydrogen power to electric.
When you think of superyachts, the first things that come to mind are luxury, size, and serious horsepower. But the industry is shifting, with designers and billionaires now backing eco-friendly superyachts.
These next-generation vessels promise quieter journeys, zero-emission cruising, and smarter energy use – all without sacrificing extravagance.
Here are seven of the most exciting eco-friendly superyachts making waves.

1. Silencieux – The Fuel-Free Electric Dream
Designed by Baran Akalin, Silencieux is the world’s first fully electric, fuel-free yacht.
At 220 feet, it packs an 11.4MW battery system capable of an astonishing 14,000 nautical mile range.
Thanks to hydrogen generators for recharging, this futuristic concept can anchor silently for up to three weeks while leaving zero emissions behind.
It truly is a perfect showcase of how eco-friendly superyachts can deliver both luxury and sustainability.

2. Drizzle – Zara Founder’s eco-friendly Superyacht
Amancio Ortega, the billionaire behind fashion giant Zara, owns Drizzle, a 92m Feadship that blends conventional engines with a 1MW lithium-ion hybrid system.
This setup allows for smoother, quieter cruising while lowering reliance on fossil fuels.
Naturally, it also comes with all the bells and whistles, from a beach club to a full wellness center.
It’s proof that even hybrid eco-friendly superyachts can rival their gas-guzzling rivals.

3. The Icon – BMW’s Glass Flying Eco-Friendly Yacht
In collaboration with Tyde, BMW has created The Icon, a hydrofoil-powered electric yacht that literally flies above the water.
Its six BMW i3 batteries power two 100kW electric motors, propelling it to 30 knots while gliding silently with zero emissions.
With its futuristic glass design, it feels more like a sci-fi spacecraft than a yacht, but it still firmly belongs in the world of eco-friendly superyachts.

4. Breakthrough – Bill Gates’s Hydrogen Pioneer
Originally commissioned by Bill Gates as Project 821, this Feadship yacht is the world’s first hydrogen-powered yacht.
It runs on fuel cells that generate clean electricity, even reusing waste heat to power the onboard pool and spa.
Gates never actually used the vessel, but its groundbreaking design has already set the standard for the future of hydrogen-powered yachts.

5. Project Cosmos – The Billionaire’s Silent Giant
Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, founder of Zozotown, is set to take delivery of Project Cosmos, a 375ft Lürssen masterpiece.
It uses an advanced methanol-to-hydrogen fuel cell system that powers the yacht in complete silence.
Designed by Marc Newson, it’s billed as the eco-superyacht that outclasses Gates’s Breakthrough and is another striking example of a cutting-edge hydrogen-powered yacht.

6. Sinot Aqua – The Concept That Fooled the World
Sinot Aqua is one of the earliest superyacht concepts to showcase hydrogen power, with dual 1,341hp engines providing a 3,750nm range.
Although headlines falsely claimed Bill Gates had bought it, Aqua still made waves by proving hydrogen was more than just theory.
With space for 14 guests and 31 crew, it remains one of the most ambitious early hydrogen-powered yacht concepts ever revealed.

7. OE Corinthian – Orient Express Goes Eco-Friendly
The OE Corinthian blends tradition with tech, pairing Solid Sail rigid sails with an LNG-electric hybrid engine system.
The sails provide renewable propulsion, while the hybrid system minimizes emissions when under power.
Styled with 20th-century ocean-liner luxury, it proves that eco-friendly superyachts can mix green credentials with glamorous, old-world charm.
