Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars is now an NFT

The viral moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars has been turned into an NFT, thousands in fact.

A user on OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace, called slap_dao has turned several different ‘Will Smith slap’ memes into NFTs – 2000 in total – with a floor price of 0.002 ETH.

The King Richard star, who took home his first Oscar for best actor, made headlines around the world and lit up social media after he stormed the stage at the Academy Awards ceremony and slapped the comedian.

Smith became upset after Rock took a jab at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

Following the shocking incident, on top of the NFTs, someone has also created a token for the slap called WSI (Will Smith Inu) and the value of this Ethereum blockchain-based token has gone up 10,000 percent over the last two days, with a trading volume of $3.6 million on March 28 alone.

Three things worth noting for those who aren’t into crypto: DAO stands for decentralised autonomous organisation, ‘floor price’ is NFT jargon for ‘base price’, and a token is a cryptocurrency that doesn’t have its own blockchain and therefore relies on a third-party network, usually Ethereum.

In theory, anybody can create their own token and there are essentially two ways to do it: you can either use pre-ready platforms that do it for you, or you can create it by yourself if you know how to.

The token in question was created by somebody who knew how to do it.

They wrote the smart contract for the token, which cost them about 4 ETH in fees, but it’s all good because they ended making 10 ETH when people started trading it.

At the time of writing, 1 ETH is worth about $3400.
