The BMW E39 is said to be one of, if not the best, 5 Series ever made.

It’s been 19 years since the German automaker stopped producing the model, so BMW fans will do all they can to keep the memories alive.

Take Anton Malar for example, who brought a BMW E39 back to its former glory and documented the entire process on YouTube.

When Anton first bought the car for $1000, the BMW E39 was in a sorry state.

Anton said it wasn’t even operational.

So, he had a huge job ahead of him.

Restoration process

First, Anton replaced both the arches and sills because they were completely rotten.

He then replaced the fenders, trunk, and most of the locks on the car.

Anton then had to source new door handles as the original handles were completely missing.

As you can see from the video, the underside of the BMW E39 was so badly rotted that the jack went straight through the rust.

To fix this, Anton had to reseal it and fill any hidden cavities.

And inside?

Well, after years of abandonment, the interior unsurprisingly had to be completely replaced.

Anton said the restoration process took six months from beginning to end, which is understandable considering the amount of work that was needed.

We’ve got to hand it to Anton – he’s done a fantastic job of bringing the BMW E39 back to life, even if the restoration did involve replacing many of the original parts.

Would love to know how much the restoration cost in total.

Anton, if you’re reading this – let us know!
