Inside the wild car collection of Elon Musk

It's pretty impressive, but there's a catch.
  • Elon Musk has owned some pretty impressive cars through the years
  • Among others, he’s owned a German supercar that he used as his daily runabout and a rare supercar from the 1990s
  • He’s also owned a ‘James Bond car’

Even though Elon Musk owns Tesla and is therefore more or less ‘obliged’ to drive the cars his company makes, he’s actually a secret gearhead.

Through the years, he’s owned some pretty spectacular vehicles.

In an episode of The Joe Rogan Podcast, Musk said he’d drive a Porsche 997 as his daily before starting Tesla.

And that’s not even the tip of the iceberg.

The Tesla CEO once bought the Lotus Esprit that featured in the 007 James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me at auction.

And the interesting part is that no one knew he was the buyer and he managed to keep it a secret for years.

Then, we need to have a talk about what is arguably the best and most valuable car he’s ever owned.

Back in 1999, when he first became a millionaire through PayPal, he bought one of the rarest supercars ever, the McLaren F1.

But that was then and this is now.

These days Elon Musk, by his own admission, drives a specific Tesla model every day and no longer owns his personal Roadster because he literally sent it to space.

He says doesn’t really care about ‘earthly’ possessions anymore.

In fact, he takes the ‘earthly’ part of this well-known expression quite seriously, since Musk’s main goal is taking humanity to Mars.

Back in 2020, he announced he would be ‘selling almost all physical possessions’ and he would ‘own no house.’

He actually did that, getting rid of seven houses since then and reinvesting everything into his companies.

It’s paying off, though.

This is because in addition to SpaceX, Twitter (now X, obviously), Tesla, and The Boring Company, which most people probably know about, Musk also owns an AI company and a neurotechnology company called Neuralink.

And Neuralink just successfully completed its first human trial to give a man paralyzed from the neck down the ability to use his computer…using his mind.

Big times ahead for the company, and their illustrious owner.
