Just as the temperatures plummet in time for the arrival of the reindeer, one woman in snowy Colorado has taken the internet by storm – or should we say, a blizzard – by revealing how to protect your windshield from freezing.
It’s that time of year when you start seeing tinfoil on cars and uninformed drivers melting their windshields with kettle water.
Anything to avoid the painstaking wait as your heaters try and thaw it from within.
But this lady has no need for all that, as she’s not letting the chill get to her. Or her windshield…

How not to defrost your frozen windscreen
Typically, people defrost their cars with a can of extothermic solution like De-Icer, or get scraping with one of those wallpaper tools designed not to scratch the glass.
But more impatient people are prone to taking things to extreme measures with a lot of heat.
From bags of water to flame throwers, some people have tried the lot.
But, too much heat – even boiling water – can be enough to completely shatter your windshield. Which seems an expensive way of saving a few minutes.

Instead, to protect your windshield from freezing and save yourself some money, using a cool bag of water is usually safer, if not the most efficient.
But of course, the best defense is prevention, so if you can protect your windshield from freezing, you don’t need to defrost at all.
Just like TikTok user emgazm, who recently moved to Colorado.
Colorado woman shows off a neat hack to protect your windshield from freezing
The state, known for its harsh winter conditions in the mountainous areas, is prone to freezing.
So much so that people have been running tests on frozen EVs to find out charging times and rates while in sub-zero temperatures.
emgazm has been doing the same, but her tests have been about preventing freezing, and her viral hack comes thanks to a standard towel.
In a viral TikTok, she placed a towel over the windshield and allowed that to freeze instead of the windshield.
Lo and behold, it worked a treat, and the woman revealed completely thawed glass as she peeled back the cotton sheet.

The video has amassed over 120,000 likes and 5,000 bookmarks, with people clearly finding the hack worthwhile.
Different types of covers can protect your windscreen from freezing, but most people have a spare towel lying around, making it the perfect go-to.
