Ford has filed a new patent design for a revolutionary type of frunk.

This is just an idea, for now, but it has the potential to completely shift the paradigm when it comes to in-car entertainment.

And if it goes well, other automakers will certainly follow suit.

Automakers file patents and trademarks pretty much on a daily basis, and this is a great way to anticipate what their next move might be.

Patents, for example, are the one of the reasons why we knew Apple was working on a car for a long time.

Crucially, it is also how we know that even though Apple has apparently scrapped the car idea, the company hasn’t given up on the automotive world, considering it is still filing patents for car-related designs.

As for Ford, the American manufacturer came up with an idea for the frunk, ie front trunk, for its electric truck.

The thing is, because of the powertrain and battery pack layout, most electric cars usually come with additional available space at the front, which is where the engine would usually be.

Some cars need both trunks, but some don’t.

In this case, since we’re talking about the F-150 Lightning, it doesn’t need one, because it already has a pretty roomy truck bed.

As reported by MotorAuthority, Ford filed a patent for a design that would the frunk into a workspace, with a sitting desk, a table, a work station where tools could be attached, and even a retractable frunk screen.

The idea is to turn your truck’s frunk into a mini portable office you can work from, or watch TV from.

It’s clever, but also very difficult to actually turn this into reality.

If they pull it off, other automakers will no doubt want to do the same.
