Jeremy Clarkson has been left ‘saddened’ after the $320,000 Maserati MCPura Cielo he was driving broke down and he now says he ‘daren’t’ get back behind the wheel.
The car-loving TV personality has been given the chance to drive some incredible vehicles in his line of work, including a Ford GT he treated like a daily driver, and a Ferrari 12Cilindri that left him ‘weak at the knees’.
As you might expect, outside of work he’s also the proud owner of some impressive cars from the likes of Alfa Romeo and Bentley.
But recently, a high-end Maserati let him down, and he’s found the whole thing pretty off-putting.

The Maserati MCPura Cielo ‘conked out’ while he was behind the wheel
Clarkson, who recently announced The Grand Tour was back with three new hosts, took to his Sunday Times column to write about the incident.
He started off by saying that his experiences with the car had mostly been ‘jolly’ and that he liked it just as much as the Maserati MC20.

However, things took a turn when it broke down without warning.
“It was late, I’d had a busy day, and on the main road between my farm and my pub it conked out,” he wrote.
But just as mysteriously as it broke down, the car started up again, and Clarkson is still none the wiser about what actually caused the car to stop working.
“I’m unable to say at the time of writing what went wrong, but just as I was wondering how on Earth I would load it onto a trailer with a nose that low, in the middle of the night, it started working again,” he added.
Since then, the Maserati MCPura Cielo has been sitting in his yard ‘looking forlorn’.
Clarkson also admitted to feeling sad over the incident, but said that for the time being, he just can’t bring himself to get behind the wheel of the car again.

Clarkson has admitted to having a rather unlikely favorite car
For a man who has driven some of the best vehicles ever made, and with a packed collection of his own, Clarkson’s favorite car might come as a bit of a surprise.
Speaking back in 2023, the TV host was asked about his favorite car and revealed it was a Lexus LFA.

He explained that he had driven the LFA more than a decade earlier and that since then, nothing had come close.
Clarkson even admitted to feeling a ‘tingle’ in his thighs when he got behind the wheel.
The ‘tingle’ was most likely prompted by the LSA’s 4.8-liter V10 engine that gives it a top speed in excess of 200mph and sends it flying from 0 to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds.
