Owning the title of world’s fastest muscle car is incredibly important to brands.

It’s a very prestigious brag to be able to say that you own the quarter-mile.

Most people think of the world’s fastest muscle car being a Ford Mustang.

But it turns out that this accolade doesn’t belong to a Mustang.

Iconic American brand decides to dominate drag strip

For decades, the quarter mile has been the ultimate proving ground for muscle cars.

It remains the measuring stick against which all muscle cars are measured.

Since the 1950s, America’s muscle car royalty has battled it out for quarter mile supremacy.

Cars like the Shelby Cobra 427 dominated the drag strip in just 12.2 seconds.

If you fast-forward to 2017, it brings you to the Dodge Viper ACR.

That muscle car managed a quarter mile time of 11.5 seconds – impressive, but not much of a jump.

But when 2023 rolled around, that all changed.

The muscle car that broke the record followed the famed formula of massive power and rear-wheel drive.

The car in question was also a limited-edition model that lived to pay tribute to its lineage.

And it was a true, fitting tribute to the legendary engineering of the muscle car.

Ladies and gentlemen – allow us to introduce you to the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

Dodge Demon achieved an unbelievably fast time

Dodge broke the hearts of gearheads and muscle car fanatics everywhere in 2023.

And that is because the brand announced the end of the ever-popular Challenger and Charger.

Of course, no such ending would be complete without one last model up its sleeve.

And that model would prove to be the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

Straight away, the hell-raising Demon 170 shook the car world to its core.

And trust us – Dodge provided the numbers to make this car truly demonic.

The Hemi V8 produced 1,025hp at 6,500 rpm – as well as 945lb-ft of torque.

This power allowed the Demon to be the first factory production car to run the quarter-mile in under nine seconds.

The car achieved an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 was solely created to destroy the drag strip.

And boy, did it do just that – becoming the world’s fastest muscle car in the process.
