The Rolls-Royce Droptail, widely known as the world’s most expensive car, had been hiding in plain sight until a surprise appearance finally revealed its owner.
Only four were ever made, and while three owners were quickly identified, the fourth remained a mystery.
For years, collectors and enthusiasts tried to piece together who the mysterious car owner was.
Then, in the most unexpected way, the answer finally revealed itself.

The Rolls-Royce Droptail is as exclusive as it gets
The Rolls-Royce Droptail sits at the very top of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ bespoke coachbuilding programme.
First unveiled in 2023, it represents a return to ultra-exclusive, hand-built commissions, where each car is designed entirely around its owner.
Inspired by high-end yachts, the Droptail features a dramatic open-top silhouette and a beautifully crafted rear deck that takes years to complete.

Each of the four examples carries its own unique theme, reflecting the personality and tastes of its buyer.
With an estimated price exceeding $30 million, the Droptail is less about transportation and more about craftsmanship, design, and exclusivity.
That level of rarity is exactly why the identity of the final owner became such a talking point.
The King and his son both share a deep interest in cars
The mystery finally unraveled during a festive open house event hosted by a royal family, where one of these ultra-rare cars appeared in public.
You may have expected the car to be roped off or presented as a static display, but neither was the case.
Instead, it arrived the way it was meant to be used: driven in like any other car.

That single moment confirmed that the long-lost fourth Droptail had been quietly in use all along.
It was later revealed that the owner is Sultan Ibrahim, the current king of Malaysia.

The sighting took place during a Hari Raya celebration, a major cultural event where open houses bring together guests in a relaxed setting.
Sultan Ibrahim is well known for his deep interest in cars, with a collection that spans classic models and modern high-performance machines.
His approach to ownership has always leaned toward actually using his vehicles rather than simply displaying them, which aligns perfectly with how the Droptail made its public debut.

His son, the crown prince of Johor, also shares the same enthusiasm towards luxury cars, having recently added a $6,000,000 Bugatti Mistral to his garage.
After years of speculation, the mystery is finally settled.
The fourth Droptail is no longer an unknown, and unsurprisingly, the world’s most expensive car found itself in the hands of royalty.
