This YouTuber accidentally bought a car he’d been dreaming about since he was a child, a Honda del Sol.

This small coupe/convertible used to be available in the 1990s, but it was never particularly popular.

This is why its market value plummeted.

And this is why he was able to buy one for just $300.

How this guy ended up with this little Honda

YouTuber ChrisFix, real name Christopher Magello, set out on a quest to buy the cheapest working car he could find.

He ended up finding this little convertible, the Honda del Sol, which was going for $1,000.

The car was far from perfect, however, in fact it had many issues.

While none of the issues were big enough to justify scrapping the car, they still played in a key part in the price.

After a bit of haggling, Chris was able to get the car for just $300.

It’s a great deal, not just because the car is, when all is said and done, in good condition, but also because it clearly meant something to him.

What happened to small, cheap convertibles?

Small convertible cars used to be relatively popular in 1980s and 1990s, but they’re all gone now.

Through the years, several automakers tried building similar cars, but they never really worked.

From the Honda del Sol to the Daihatsu Copen and the Opel GT, these cars all ended up underperforming in the market.

There is, however, one obvious exception, and that’s the Mazda MX-5.

The MX-5 is an icon, and a best seller which often inspires restomods, some of which are fairly terrible, and some of which are fantastic.

Mazda announced a new model in 2022, but sort of forgot about it since.

Hopefully we’ll get some news on that front soon.

Until then, let’s hope that Chris and his Honda stay together for a long time.
