Back in 2018, the Lazzarini Design studio came up with the idea of a floating city made from modular pyramids.

The city was dubbed Wayaland, envisioned as a modular city powered by solar panels and water turbines.

The project aims to provide a new offshore living experience within a self-sustainable floating city.

Modular pyramid floating city

Lazzarini Design Studio envisioned Wayaland as a floating city made of modular pyramids.

Each modular pyramid would offer different living and entertainment facilities including hotels, shops, spas, gyms, bars, and cinemas.

Nowadays, floating cities are not exactly a groundbreaking concept.

South Korea is building one that will house 100,000 people by 2025.

However, Wayaland is a bit different as each unit can serve as a hotel, residential unit, gym, greenhouse, etc.

The firm initialized the building process of Wayaland Floating City by starting a crowdfunding campaign for the smaller two-floor module (10m x 10m).

However, it’s not exactly cheap as the firm is offering one night in the Waya Suite for €1000.

So if you can’t afford to buy a floating house, then this might be the next best thing.

The design firm is also not the only player in the market interested in building a city like this.

Many countries are also planning to build one in the near future.

Floating cities in different countries

Other than South Korea, Japan is also building a massive floating city in the ocean called Dogen City.

It is also dubbed the ‘no-illness’ city as residents will have access to the latest medical healthcare.

While Dubai is building its floating version of Venice, complete with underwater hotel suites.

Similar to Lazzarini, a Chinese construction company has designed a floating city, which will be made out of concrete on land, and then transported to the sea.
