From tech moguls like Marc Zuckerberg to Hollywood stars like Brad Pitt, wealthy home owners often buy a second or third estate right next door.

They usually do it for extra privacy and they’re willing to spend just about any sum for the privilege.

In the case of Jeff Bezos, though, the amount is truly mind-blowing.

The billionaire founder of Amazon bought a waterfront estate in Indian Creek Village, FL for a cool $79 million.

He bought it because the 2-acre estate sits right next to his other property, which is literally next door.

Ironically, his second home is even more expensive than his first one.

The neighboring property he purchased last year ‘only’ cost him $68 million.

The new home offers 19,000 square feet of usable space.

It has seven bedrooms, a wine cellar and a home theater, a swimming pool and, more importantly, 200 feet of bay frontage.

Couple that with his other property and Bezos now has 4.6 acres of waterfront land at his disposal.

Bezos isn’t the only one to follow this MO when it comes to buying property.

Aside from the aforementioned cases of Zuckerberg and Brad Pitt, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt did exactly the same thing.

Since 2020, he and his wife spent around $100 million to buy adjacent houses in Miami Beach.

This isn’t that big of a deal for Schmidt and his net worth of $20 billion.

And Schmidt’s fortune is a drop in the bucket when compared the net worth of Jeff Bezos.

Hence why spending $79 million on a mansion that looks like this makes sense for him.

The founder and current CEO of Amazon is the third-richest person in the world, with a net worth in excess of $155 billion.

Only LVMH’s Bernard Arnault and Elon Musk precede him on Forbes’ billionaire list.
